Mommy Baby Pilates with The Pilates Mamas!!

If you know me, you know that I am in love with pilates and I know it has made my post-baby body healthy and strong again.

That is why when I met the Pilates Mamas, Janet and Sara, from another local pilates lover, I knew I had to try it! It incorporates my favorite things, my baby, Brent and fitness! I can't always make time for myself. And most other moms can't either. That is why I just love the idea of doing pilates with your little one.

I had a blast taking Brent along for this journey. He loved playing and doing certain movements with me.

I know finding time to workout post baby is super hard and basically impossible. But classes like this are perfect and it is a fun way to meet other new moms just like you! I left feeling strengthened and energized.

About Pilates Mamas :
As recent new Moms, and certified Pilates instructors, we found ourselves exhausted with motherhood, struggling with post-baby bodies, and yearning to get back on the mat. We struggled to find the time to workout, without having the separation anxiety from our little ones, and we saw a gap in the market for Baby and Me classes, based on Pilates principles.

We both recognized the importance of strengthening the body after childbirth, and our classes cater to the Mom and Dad’s desire to bond with their babies during this early stage of life. Pilates Mamas aims to provide a safe and supportive environment to breathe and focus on your body, while bonding with your babies and introducing them to the healthy practice of Pilates.

The Instructors:

Janet- A true global citizen, Janet was born in Canada, raised in Hong Kong, educated in the UK and now resides in NYC. Although Janet began her career in finance, once she discovered Pilates there was no turning back. In Pilates she found healing from persistent back pain, relief from an old shoulder injury and most recently, a return to her pre-baby body. Finding that she couldn't get enough of Pilates, she abandoned her lucrative finance job to pursue a career as a Pilates instructor and is currently is a lead teacher trainer at Equinox Pilates Training Institute and is passionate about helping others heal and grow stronger through Pilates. Through Pilates Mamas she hopes to share the joy she finds in practicing mommy and me Pilates with her daughter Evelina with busy moms across NYC.

Sara grew up dancing and adopted Pilates as a way to maintain her strong dancer's physique.  She became certified through Romana's Pilates in 2008 and has been teaching in studios throughout Philadelphia and New York City ever since. For Sara, Pilates has always been more than just an exercise program but it wasn't until 2015 when she had her baby girl, Cameron, that Pilates truly became a way of life. She found that practicing Pilates post baby helped her abdominals heal and it also accelerated the strengthening of her entire body in ways she never knew existed. She currently teaches at Equinox where she is the Pilates Coordinator of the studio.  Sara is incredibly passionate about sharing this work with clients and is excited to help motivate families to come move their bodies with Pilates Mamas.

Surfs Up! SurfSet Fitness and #SESimply with Mom Trends

Let's catch the party wave!! I picked up some surfer lingo at this totally rad surf class last week at Surfset. When I heard I'd be surfing I wasn't sure what to expect. I had never been on a surf board before but I was excited to try it!

It was such a fun class and I was actually sweating after only the first 10 minutes! Balancing on the board takes a ton of core strength and focus. I had so much fun learning to surf with moves like, kick the shark and the paddle, all derived from actual techniques surfers use in the ocean! How totally awesome is that?!

The atmosphere was set with is giant wave screen and Surfing USA by the Beach Boys was blasting from the speakers. But, what really got me in the zone to hang 10, was the Mermaid Crown Bar by Crowns by Christy. I had so much fun picking out the perfect mix of starfish & seashells.

After a hard workout I don't always have time to run home to change or shower. I also, don't love showering at the gym but with Simply Summer Eve's new line of cleaners and cloths I can freshen up quickly and on the go.

My ultimate favorite is the Simply Summer's Eve Gentle Foaming Wash that I've been using in the tropical new coconut scent which I just love. It's sweet and subtle. I know that washing with harsh chemicals can really irritate me and this new line is pH balanced to your body and is hypoallergenic. The cleaning cloths are perfect for on the go and come in the same amazing scents! These products will be nationwide in May 2017.

Boudreaux Butt Paste Event at Exhale Spa - Hosted by MomTrends

I am all about trying new things this year.  Especially, when it comes to working out and helping care for my little guy's bum. I was so lucky to score an invite to the launch of Boudreaux Butt Paste's newest product launch for the Maximum Strength Jar hosted by MomTrends. And what better way to celebrate than with an awesome booty workout at the gorgeous Exhale Spa in NYC

I joined these amazing moms, and the cutie baby Boudreaux himself (in the plush!), for an all out booty-licious exercise class. What better way to end my week, right?! Exhale Spa formulated a unique workout just for us. It incorporated Single Leg Lunges, Turned Out Thigh, the Clamshell and of course my booty toning favorite, the Tabletop. Followed by some nutritious snacks and a relaxing message. Pretty awesome, I KNOW!

What really got my blood flowing, however, was the new flip top cap lid on the 14oz jar of Butt Paste... where has this been all my life?!! Gone are the days of unscrewing the lid of the jar while elbow deep in dirty diaper. This jar is perfect for the changing table. It's simple and one handed cap will be life changing... Trust me!

I've been using butt paste for my kids since my first son was born over 8 years ago. It's exciting to see them launch this new Maximum Strength Jar to protect and sooth rash discomfort. It's fast acting and a safe solution. I loved hearing how the company started all those years ago in 1978 in the small town of Covington, Louisiana. And it's been trusted by pediatricians and moms ever since. Need this staple in your nursery? Head over to Target or Amazon, available now! #BUTTPASTEBOOTY

  • Starts healing diaper rash on contact
  • Provides thickest barrier of protection with 40%zinc oxide
  • Free of Dyes, Paragons, Preservatives, Phthalates and Talc

Fitness Event with Crunch Gym - BODYSHRED & Ass n Abs Class

This year I've decided to try new things when it comes to working out. I love to run and I've been doing a pilates class twice a week but when Brianne from StrollerintheCity invited me to this Fitness Event with Crunch Gym - BODYSHRED and Ass n Abs Class, I knew this was something I had to do.

I've workout at gyms in the past and I really enjoy taking classes. They motivate me to push myself and being in a group environment totally makes the workout fly by, because well, you are distracted from the pain in your legs and sweat dripping down your face!!

This new Crunch location is top of the line. It's called the Signature Club and it's on 66th street in Manhattan. The equipment is brand new and even the mats were squeaky clean, which I totally appreciated. This location offers unlimited group fitness classes and feels like a boutique studio. Find a Crunch Gym near you.

BODY SHRED is a total body workout that incorporates circuit blocks that are 6 minutes each. There is no stopping and the best part is that the workout keeps changing. Once that circuit block is over, you switch to another set of muscles. It is high energy and by far one of the best workout classes at a gym that I've ever taken. Then we took a small recovery break about 5 minutes long and then went into a nice calm Ass n Abs class. It left me wanting more, so thanks Crunch Gym and Brianne for a great new workout!

After sweating our butts off, we were treated to a yummy high protein smoothie by Just Salad and an unbelievable goodie bag with some impressive sponsors.

The next class on my list to try is No Gravity Yoga... Stay tuned!

New Year, New You... 10 Ways to Make 2017 The Best Year Yet!

Some of my favorite family moments from 2016!

2016 was a very busy year for me and my family... We sold a home, bought a new home, did major renovations and a move and that's all while caring for the new baby, Brent who turned 1 this year, and raising our older two children; Brinkley, who turned 6 and started 1st grade and Brycen, who turned 8 and started 3rd grade.

I'm looking forward to 2017, to start a new year with my husband and three amazing children and settling into our new home. I know it's going to be a good one!

This year, I want to focus on my health. I have met so many fantastic women over the years and here is how they are inspiring me. Hopefully they will inspire you too! Cheers to health and happiness in the New Year!

It starts here. . . having the tools to make things happen. Here are 10 ways you can make a change this year.

1. "Look Good, Feel Good"... Well, it's true. If you look good, you feel good, you do good and so on! That's why I decided to call my friend and owner of LABL VB, Lindsay.  It's a new super chic shop where fashion meets fitness. I haven't bought any new workout clothes since before I was pregnant and I wanted to get some new pieces to inspire me to hit the gym this year! From basics to super trendy, LABL VB has it all! Check out these cute and stylish leggings Lindsay picked for me!

LABL VB is a boutique in Virginia Beach, VA that sells fun, fashionable fitness wear for all lifestyles. Shop the looks on their online boutique I met the owner Lindsay while she was living in NYC. Lindsay's love for fitness and fashion began in NYC while attending her favorite group fitness classes such as Barry’s Bootcamp and Soul Cycle. She moved back to Virginia to be close to her family and she wanted to bring her style back to her hometown with a curated boutique featuring some of her favorite athleisure brands. Some of her favorite brands include: Alo Yoga, Koral, Onzie and Vimmia.

2. Be Prepared- One of my main tricks is that I always lay out my workout clothes before I go to bed if I plan on working out the next day. That way, it's there and ready to go. No excuses. I am lucky enough, that most days, I can totally pull off wearing workout clothes and look normal. But for many of you working in a corporate office or professional atmosphere, you may not be able to swing this relaxed attire. However, if you simply pack the workout clothes in your bag, you'll be much more likely to squeeze in that workout, than if you had to run home and change. Going home to change is the kiss of death. You'll never want to leave that cozy couch after a long day of work or taking care of the kids. Working out in the morning or in-between meetings? Well, you can also do low impact workouts that don't make you super sweaty when you return back to the office. Try pilates, or just a brisk walk. Quick Fact: You can burn approximately 100 calories in a 30 min walk. You'll feel so much better than had you not done anything. I squeeze a couple of quick workouts in per week along with 1 (1hour) class. Check out my post for a quick 5 minute workout!

3. Try Something New- Even if you are on a daily workout regimine or gearing up to start a new fitness journey, trying new classes is a must. Taking classes is a great way to kick start a workout routine, sometimes all you need is a fun class to get you motivated. You can do things you never thought you could. I don't have much time to squeeze in workout classes but when one of my local mom friends and fitness buff, Blake from Ready Go Fit Club, told me about this rowing class called Current, I knew I had to try it. Maybe this is my new thing?!! Quick fact: Rowing burns up to 840 calories per hour. It was so fun, it didn't even feel like we were working out. The class was pumping with the best music and dim candle light. I felt so great after and am excited to do it again. This definitely motivated me to go outside my normal workouts. Trust me, working out can be fun!

Current is currently having a huge promotion in January.. Check them out online!

4. Make Dietary Changes - We all probably feel a little bloated after all the holiday festivities. Well, my friend, Manya Williams can help you with all your dietary needs. Are you ready for a change? Manya is a nutritional educator and private chef. We met a few years ago when our boys were little. I remember always going to Manya for her fresh pressed juices. They were an amazing blend of seasonal fruits and veggies and helped get my nutrition and body back on track. Manya worked with me one-on-one to find out what my body needed and didn't need. Today, Manya is creating customized menu planning to help with your specific symptoms to "lead you toward your most radiant state of well being."  "We don't just give you a quick fix and send you on your way - We show you how to live a healthy, happier, more positive life and hold your hand through the whole journey."

5. Fix Common Workout Pains... So you can actually work out! Body aches can totally derail any work out plans. Help your body be ready to hit the gym! I am not an expert but like the rest of us, I suffer from many of these ailments. This is what helps me! But be careful and listen to your body. If something seems off, consult your doctor.

6. Make a Kickin Playlist- Music can really help boost your workout and keep you motivated. There are studies that show how music can make the workouts more enjoyable. See this post from the NY Times, How Music Might Improve Your Workout. So it's not always fun when you are feeling the burn and may want to quit. We've all been there! But music, whether calm or super intense, can really get you through it. So, try making a playlist with songs that inspire you, make you want to get up and move or are just simply enjoyable for you to listen to. Trust me, music makes all the difference. It can put you in the zone and help you tune out that voice in your head that says "make this stop!"... Here are some of the songs that are on Billboards Beats that Move Your Feet playlist. Some of my favs are:

  1. The Chainsmokers - Closer
  2. Sia - The Greatest
  3. Bruno Mars - 24K Magic
  4. Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop the Feeling
  5. Rae Sremmurd - Black Beatles

7. Workout Partner- I know this works! I recently tried Pilates with one of my new momma friends because I thought it would be fun to try. It is a great core workout that is gentle on the body and not super intense compared to some bootcamp classes I've done in the past. I didn't expect to have so much fun working out with a buddy. I knew I liked classes but this was more of a private lesson type class and was really fun and gave us time to ourselves minus our little ones! We set up a day that worked for both of us (although it gets changed and modified weekly!) but we connect with each other and it helps get me to the gym. It's much easer to say to yourself you aren't going to the gym today or you want to skip that class, but when you have a friend joining you and you know she's going to be bummed if you miss it, it really helps give you that little boost. Plus, it's fun once you are there and you feel so much better after. I know it's not easy and it is hard to find time, but doing it with a friend or family member makes all the difference. 8. Do a Fun Run- Get some friends or co-workers to do it with you. Not sure what this is? Wikipedia explains it as "a friendly race that involves either road running or cross country running with participants taking part for their own enjoyment rather than competition. A fun run will usually be help to raise funds for charity, with sponsors providing the revenue to cover organizational costs." So get out there and do it! There are specific site's dedicated to just meeting up for a run and having fun! Check out this site if you live in NYC. ... however, doing this can be dangerous. Be careful who you run with! Doing this with a friend or group of friends can make it even more fun and safe! There are fun runs all over the country. Find one in your area or try organizing one yourself by putting up a sign in your local gym or fitness studio.

9. Meditation- This word might scare some people. But meditation has many different meanings. Sometimes it's just knowing when it's time to chill. Even a relaxing walk/hike will burn calories and make you feel good. Taking 20 min to just stretch and relax your body can be so beneficial to the mind & body. It gives you time to release the daily pressures, be in your own mind and aware of your body. Meditation can also be a time where you lay/sit down comfortably, close your eyes, breathe naturally and focus on your breathe. This can help relieve built up stress and can calm you. Need help starting out? Me too.. Here are some of the best Meditation Apps you can download right to your phone. By

10. H2O- Make a splash! Not only is drinking water one of the best things you can do for your body but also working out in the water helps to burn calories and is super low impact. So, if you are one of those people suffering from joint pain and have a hard time hitting the gym or local fitness class, than try some of these amazing water workouts! Quick Fact: Swimming burns around 600 calories per hour.  Running in-place in the water, doing squat jumps, bicycling your legs, treading water, are all great calorie burning exercise you can do while in the water. This will all help burn more calories than swimming alone. Try this 20 min routine by Fitness Magazine.  Don't have a pool? Live in NYC, well, check out this amazing class at . Find something in your area by asking your local community center or fitness studio for recommendations!

I hope some or all of these tips will help inspire you to feel good and be healthy this year! Cheers to a great 2017.

My new fitness obsession.. NINA!

I love Nina and it's what she's doing for my body that I am really obsessing over!
Pilates is good for every-body. If you are an avid runner or have literally never worked out a day in your life, then pilates would work for you. It's so good for your body. I leave my sessions feeling so limber and relaxed. It really is amazing. And I know it works because I am sore the next day in all the right spots. So I know the gentle movements are really working.

Pilates is to your body, like chocolate is to strawberries. It just makes it so much better!

I met Nina over a month ago from a dear friend and fellow momma! p.s. Thanks Lauren!

Pilates is a method of physical and mental exercise involving stretches and breathing that focus on strengthening the abdominal core.

It really helps with building strength and stretching your muscles.

I have fallen in love with this and crave the nice peaceful workout that it is. But don't get me wrong, I love hard, super intense workouts too. But now I know it's good to mix things up and be gentle on your body sometimes!

For more information on pilates and to work with Nina yourself, see below for classes and private lesson details!

Running With The Baby

I really love to run and the last few weeks have been good for me. I've been running a few times a week with the baby in the stroller. I normally drop the big kids off at school around 8:20 and am on the running path by 8:30. I can squeeze in about a mile before the baby starts getting restless.

I have been thinking about joining the local bootcamp class but I haven't yet. I think I'll stick to the ease of "my" schedule and doing it when I have the energy/time.

Making the time to run in the mornings has been good for my mental health also. I really do believe it helps calm the body and release negative energy.

BTW I don't have a running stroller and have just been using my Bugaboo. It seems to do the job just fine and I don't think its necessary for small (1-3 mile runs) to invest in a running stroller. However, if you are putting in the miles with the little ones you should probably use something more suitable for running longer distances.

What motivates you? Leave your thoughts/comments below!

5 Minutes for 5 Days - Give it to Me!

I really don't have time to work out like I would like to. Yea, I do like to work out. Maybe I'm crazy but don't blame me. I got it from my dad... he still is doing triathlons and always said running (very long distances) relaxed him. I also find peace by busting by ass in a hard core work out. Ok crazy as it might seem... But I rarely find time to even get to the gym. Let alone do a class or bootcamp. So I've figured out how to squeeze in workouts like this quick 5 minute sequence. I have been doing this every day because I'm going to be sitting on the beach in less than a week. And I really think its by far the quickest and easiest core workout around. And even with three kids... I can find 5 min! Well I may do this while I'm watching the baby. But he likes watching mommy do funny dances!

PS Don't look at the clock. This may take you 7 minutes. But do it at your own pace and make the most of this time.

1. 20 Reverse Bicycle Crunches (same as bicycle crunches but legs go under and up!) These really work your lower abs!

2. 20 Squats with High Kicks - Alternate legs *note- focus on your core while you kick. These work your abs!!

3. 20 Reverse Bicycle Crunches - AGAIN

4. 20 Squats with High Kicks - AGAIN

5. Hold plank for 1 min - If you have it in you and you have the time!

Come on ladies! You can do it!
